Top lighting trends in 2019

Interested in what’s on the horizon for lighting industry? We caught up with Bob Singer, IALD, IES, head lighting designer at Bob Singer & Associates and former SOURCE Award Winner, to learn about the lighting trends to keep an eye on in 2019.

1. Customization

One of the best ways to give a space personality and character is by incorporating unique lighting fixtures. “Designers love having the ability to customize a decorative element, so that it works in whatever environment they’re creating,” said Singer. Shaper pendants take the customization trend to the next level with multiple sizes and countless color combinations that can create thousands of one-of-a-kind looks.

2. Seamless aesthetics

Modern interiors are based mainly on clean forms, so it makes sense that minimal lines and seamless illumination are at the forefront of lighting design in 2019. “Unless the fixture is purposefully decorative, it’s important that lighting is felt and not seen,” said Singer. Integrating lighting into the architecture makes a striking impression while allowing you to experience a space in its purest form. Our stylish family of Corelite Continua fixtures blends perfectly into the minimalism trend with long, clean lines and low-profiles.

3. Color tuning

As LED lighting and controls become more widespread, their possibilities grow. Among the new possibilities is the ability to change the color temperature and light levels in a space. Dim-to-warm tuning mimics the warmth and dimming effects of incandescent sources, while tunable white allows you to control the color temperature for warmer or cooler lighting. “As a trend, color tuning is being embraced by the design industry,” said Singer. “It’s a great application for hospitality and restaurants, even schools.”

4. Wireless capabilities

“People love the idea of being able to control each individual fixture on its own from a single source,” said Singer. “But the greater benefit is the decreased labor and installation costs of wireless systems.” With WaveLinx, setup, configuration and system maintenance can all be handled from a mobile device, making connected lighting that much easier to implement in commercial or industrial applications, both indoor and outdoor.
